The ISUS group, represented by Rui Moreira, presented a seminar entitled “Cross-reality: interligando o mundo real e o mundo virtual” to students of the Mobile Computing Masters Course from Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão da Guarda (ESTG), Instituto Politécnico da Guarda (IPG). This event was held in July 16th 2010 in response to a kind invitation from Prof. Beatriz de Jesus Rebelo.
Albeit the hectic beginning, the interest and thoughtful collaboration of the students and staff contributed to a nice and interactive presentation. The audience was able to understand the proposed communication architecture between virtual and real worlds (i.e., Second Life and Robots). Moreover, the participants were able to interact and program the robots and attest the bidirectional communication/control between avatars and robots. These experiments allowed us to illustrate the high potentialities of cross-reality architectures/applications.
Interestingly, during the next day (17th of July) we were invited by Prof. Carlos Carreto to visit the Robot Bombeiro competition, organized by the Departamento de Informática (ESTG – IPG). This appealing event stimulates the interest of young people/students in robotics… we felt captivated to come back!
